Lesson Plan Bank

With Practicum 3 soon approaching, teacher-candidates are getting ready to
start organizing their units, lessons and activities.  As such, the lesson
plan committee has organized a lesson plan bank specific to Althouse students,
where lesson plans, activities and other teaching resources can be shared
through WebCT!

Althouse’s Lesson Plan Bank on WebCT is now open!  You can access it through
WebCT by clicking on the link to the EDUC 5010 or 5011 courses (the
practicum “courses”).  In these sections, you will find instructions on how to
upload and download lesson plans, activities, handouts, etc.

The success of this Lesson Plan Bank is up to teacher-candidates — it can
only grow and become a useful tool if we view it as a collaborative effort, so
please post up as many resources as possible!

*NOTE: at the end of the term, WebCT courses will be shut down, so please be
sure to upload and download desired resources before the end of term!

Thank you, and let the sharing begin!

Yearbook Sales & Refunds

First the bad news: Due to insufficient demand, we are unable to print the
original 72-page hardcover 2010 yearbook as originally planned.

Now the good news: Weve decided to reformat the yearbook into the form of a
DVD. This format has numerous advantages. First, were now able to offer a
full-coloured case DVD for only $10, compared to the $35 hardcover. Moreover,
were no longer constrained by a 72 page count. This means more photos, more
art, more of you. Despite no longer being in print, the yearbook will still
be presented in a (digital) book format, with actual pages to look at (not a
slideshow of images).

Also impossible with our previous format is the video content. This will
include, but will not be limited to, a Speakers Corner-like opportunity for
you to record your own video messages to the graduating class of 2010.
Message recording will begin March 1, so you have plenty of time to figure out
what you want to say. Just drop in.

Yearbook purchases (and refunds, for those who have already purchased the
hardcover) will take place outside the Students Council office from Monday,
February 22 to Thursday, February 25. We have to have final numbers by this
date, so Thursday will be your last chance to purchase one. Please note, that
the yearbook DVD will be write-protected.

If you have any pictures that you would like to see included in the yearbook,
please email them to althouseyearbook2010@googlemail.com ASAP.

One final note, the deadline for the yearbook cover contest has been extended
until Friday, February 26. Remember, that the winning entry will receive a
full refund for their purchased yearbook, and all submissions will be included
in the yearbook. The theme for this years yearbook is Legends and Fairy Tales
(e.g. the Little Red Riding Hood wolf lying in b.ed.) The title is Legends in
B.Ed., but this is option and can be overlaid digitally later. Format should
be either .PSD, .JPEG or .PNG, and resolution should be 600 dpi.

If you have any questions please email Shirin Akhtar (sakhta@uwo.ca),
Katherine Vanderheyden (kvande22@uwo.ca) or any of the VPs of Communication:
Erik Bohl (ebohl@uwo.ca), Bjorn Wiegelmann (bwiegelm@uwo.ca) or Mike Murray
(mmurra24@uwo.ca).
